Subsections of No Cancer RP Rules

Chapter 1

General

This section covers general rules that do not apply to any specific category.

Subsections of General

Use common sense

Common sense can apply to clearly disruptive and negative behavior that is not necessarily covered by the rules.

As common sense can be subjective, this rule should generally be reserved for small things and otherwise defer to the rule of Prevailing Interpretation.

Do not RDM

RDM is constituted by killing players in a way that the rules do not permit.

Examples of RDM include (but are not limited to):

  • Killing players for micspamming
  • Killing players for being “annoying”
  • Killing players for “pulling out a gun”
  • Killing players for insulting you
  • Killing players for holding out restraints (provided no attempt was made)
  • Killing players for pointing guns at you
  • Killing players for following you

Examples of RDM do NOT include:

  • Killing players for raiding
  • Killing players for tasing you
  • Killing players after hearing an audible restraint noise
  • Killing players for inflicting damage on you

Do not verbally harass people

Verbal Harassment is constituted by actions that are intentionally meant to cause emotional or psychological harm. Examples include (but are not limited to):

  • Repeated name calling
  • Insults
  • Personal attacks
  • Doxxing
  • Use of targeted slurs

Note: Occasional name-calling or insults do not nessisarily constitute verbal harrassment if they are not repeated or exceptionally severe.

Do not abuse props/entities

Abusing props/entites involves any use of props or entities to:

  • Harm players
  • Push players (incl. yourself)
  • Access areas that are otherwise unaccessable to you. Examples of this include (but are not limited to):
    • Climbing (does not apply to structures for your own base)
    • Clipping (using seats or other means to access areas that are inaccessable)
  • Block access to areas of the map that are not parts of rules-compliant base
  • Build in spawn tunnels (at all)
  • Block cameras
  • Place cameras in players bases
  • Place props in players bases
  • Crashing the server or otherwise intentionally degrading server performance.
  • Disrupting players in ways that are not permitted by any rules. Examples of this include (but are not limited to):
    • Screen shaking
    • Bright lights
    • Strobe lights
    • Loud noises
    • Placing props/entities outside of players bases for the purposes of annoyance/disruption
    • Intentionally or carelessly causing FPS drops

Do not harass people in-game

In-game harassment is constituted by repeatedly targeting specific players or specific groups of players with RP actions or rule violations.

Harassment does not extend to RP actions that permit widespread action. Examples of this are (but are not limited to):

  • Repeatedly killing a player during a terror
  • Killing a group of players during a raid (if the raid was itself not an instance of harassment)

Groups of players may include groups of player with a common attribute, such as:

  • New players
  • Younger players
  • Players on a specific job/custom class

Examples include (but are not limited to):

  • Repeatedly raiding someone’s base
  • Repeatedly RDMing someone
  • Repeatedly mugging someone
  • Repeatedly kidnapping new players

Do not spam chat

Spamming chat is consituted by spamming messages that appear to players, this includes:

  • Adverts
  • Proximity chat
  • OOC
  • Yells
  • Broadcast
  • PMs
  • Admin Chat (asay or otherwise)
  • ANY other avenue that a message may appear to players in the chat window

Do not use cheats/exploits

Using cheats or exploits shall be constituted by the use of ANY tool or feature to perform actions that are not intended to be possible.

A program is defined as an executable, Lua script, binary module, or Lua module.

Examples of this include (but are not limited to):

  • ANY PROGRAM which provides an advantage or otherwise grants features not accessable to other players
  • ANY PROGRAM which is used to modify or interfere with files transmitted to the client. This does not include tools which archive these files (e.g. Scripthook)
  • ANY PROGRAM which is used to interfere with the execution environment or behavior of Lua code on the client.
  • ANY PROGRAM which is used to interfere with the communication between the client and server (e.g. netmessages, usermessages, concommands)

Macros are an exception to these rules if they are not used against the server (eg. lagging or causing disruptive behavior)

Exceptions may be granted on a case-by-case, person-by-person basis by the owner of the server.

Do not display offensive/explicit images

Your sprays may not contain prohibited imagery. You may also not use any other means to display prohibited imagery (e.g. ANY form of tracing, pixel art, representation with props, EGP, Screens, or ANY OTHER METHOD)

Examples of prohibited imagery include (but are not limited to):

  • Gore
  • Porn
  • Cropped porn
  • Nudity
  • Offensive imagery

Do not scam anyone

You may not mislead, misrepresent, or otherwise deceive players into performing actions with the result or goal of gaining anything of value.

Examples of this include (but are not limited to):

  • Not completing agreed-upon transactions.
  • Misrepresenting the odds of gambling machines
  • Intentionally creating gambling machines that artifically bias the game against the player (natural differences inherent in games do not violate this)

Any scam involving transactions of real money shall result in a permanent ban.

Do not abuse addons/mechanics

Do not abuse addons or mechanics to provide unintended advantages or to be disruptive.

Examples of this include (but are not limited to):

  • Blending/Making props invisible
  • Using disruptive/glitched textures
    • An example would be using a texture on a rope that can be seen throughout the whole map
  • Randomly tasing people

If you are unsure what counts as an unfair mechanic ask a staff member.

Do not buy/sell items for real money

You may not buy or sell on-server items for real money. All purchases must be made through the server store. (exceptions may be made by server owner)

You may exchange credits for on-server items between people.

Prevailing Interpretation

Rules may not explicitly reflect all possible situations most rules will require interpretation to adequately cover all situations.

Not all interpretations are equal and as such the Prevailing Interpretation (the interpretation that should be considered for enforcement) shall be issued by (in descending precedence):

  1. Head of Rules Committee
  2. Management
  3. Joint decision by Rules Committee
  4. Individual Rules Committee members
  5. Staff Members (with precedence for higher ranks)

Examples:

  • An admins’s interpretation overrules a moderator’s interpretation
  • A Joint decision by the Rules Committee overules a single rules committee members interpretation.
  • A Rules Committee member’s interpretation overrules an admin’s interpretation
  • A Head of Rules Committee member’s interpretation overrules all other interpretations.
Chapter 2

Adverts

This section covers rules about adverts and warnings.

Required advert actions are covered in the “What you must advert” and “What you do not have to advert” sections.

Adverts are used for RP commuication across the server and to announce some actions to the server.

RP action adverts announce the beginning of RP actions that require adverting.

The advert shall be considered the start of the action for cooldown purposes. The cooldown shall start upon the over advert.

RP actions unintentionally announced through adverting can be cancelled by adverting (false/void) the adverts will be invalid for all purposes.

Subsections of Adverts

You may not chain adverts

Adverts that annouce RP actions MUST contain exactly one RP action. Chaining multiple RP action announcements or warnings is prohibited.

Example: /advert PD Raid/Bank Raid/Mug/Warning

What you must advert

Action Advert Required Must advert over Must advert counter
Raid No No No
PD Raid Yes Yes Yes
Bank Raid Yes Yes Yes
Kidnap No No No
Muggings Yes No Yes
Warnings Yes N\A N\A
Steal No No No
Hit Accepted/Hit Complete No No No

You may not abuse warns to kill someone

Before you can kill the any player, you must issue 3 consecutive warnings with 3 seconds inbetween them.

If a player complies with the warnings and then returns outside of 30 seconds you must restart the warnings from 1.

Warns must be issued for valid reasons

You may not issue warnings for RP interactions that do not involve you.

You may only issue warnings for valid reasons, such as:

  • Refusing to leave your base
  • Following you
  • Pointing a gun at you
  • Shooting at your base
  • Loitering outside your base

Examples of invalid reasons are:

  • Hobo playing music through mic
  • Someone standing near you
  • Someone holding a gun in your general area

When issuing warnings you MUST attempt to resolve the problem if applicable. Examples of this are:

  • Someone points a gun at you, you must attempt to move out of the sight of the gun before issuing a warning.
  • Someone is following you, you must actually try moving away from the person
Chapter 3

NLR & RP Interaction

This chapter covers rules governing NLR and RP interaction.

RP Actions cover anything that involve what a job is permitted to do. Examples include (but are not limited to):

  • Raids
  • Muggings
  • Basing
  • Making drugs
  • Kidnaps
  • Theft
  • Shooting
  • Tasing
  • Mayor/PD actions (Arrests, /warrant, /wanted, /broadcast, ect)
  • Terrors
  • Adverts
  • Non-OOC chat
  • Voice Chat

RP Interactions cover all RP Actions that are between 2 or more players.

You MAY NOT have RP interactions with someone who has as building sign up.

You MAY NOT have RP interactions with someone if you have a building sign up.

Subsections of NLR & RP Interaction

NLR

NLR or New Life Rule specifies that any and all information of RP interactions covered by NLR do not persist across lives.

RP Interactions covered by NLR are:

  • ALL Raids
  • Muggings
  • Kidnaps
  • Counters to any of the above

Examples of violating NLR include (but are not limited to):

  • Returning to a raid after you have died as part of it
  • Killing a mugger AFTER you have died as part of a mugging
  • Killing a kidnapper after you have died as part of a kidnapping

Getting revenge on a player for an RP action (e.g. kidnapping your kidnapper) IS NOT a violation of NLR.

Additionally, the completion of an RP action, it should generally be considered “new life”.

Examples of this are:

  • Serving a full jail time (you cannot kill the person who arrested you)

Cooldowns

Cooldowns apply to specific RP interactions and dictate how often the specific action may be performed.

Action Cooldown
Mug 5 minutes
Raid 5 minutes
Raid (same base) 10 minutes
PD Raid 10 minutes
Bank Raid 10 minutes
Terror 10 minutes
Kidnapping 10 minutes

FailRP

FailRP is defined as using meta means to interfere with an RP interaction.

Examples of this include (but are not limited to):

  • Using kill to avoid RP interactions (kidnaps, mugs, ect)
  • Using keypad codes obtained through meta means to raid bases
  • Using information from the tab menu for RP means
  • Basing an RP action off a player’s job
  • Acting on information you did not witness or have access to through RP means

Kidnapping

Additional rules covering kidnaps include:

  • You can only hold a captive for up to 10 minutes before they must either be killed or released.
  • The max ransom for a captive is $50,000.
  • If you can audibly hear the restraint noise, that is considered a kidnap attempt and you are allowed to kill them.
  • You may counter a kidnap regardless if the kidnapped player is a member of your party. (This does not include PD arrests)

Mugging

Additional rules covering muggings are:

  • You can mug every 5 minutes
  • The max you can mug for is $50,000
  • You must advert mug with a time of at least 10 seconds
  • If you want to restrict someone during a mug, you must add it in the advert. (Ex. Must have KOS if moving or KOS if gun out)
  • The person who you are mugging must be standing still and if possible, shouldn’t be going against your restrictions in your advert before the mug.
  • You must inform the player they are being mugged through proximity text chat or voice chat
  • You may not mug someone who is in violation of your restrictions and then immediately kill them

Terror

To start a terror, use the !terror command.

Additional rules covering terrors include:

  • You may only terror for 10 minutes or until you die.
  • You may not terror from building/base at all.
  • You may kill people in buildings if they are in plain view from outside (eg. windows/open doors) but you may not enter.
  • You may optionally kill people during terror.

Rivals

Rivals may KOS their rivals.

Unless otherwise specified, these are reversable. (ex. Bloodz may kill Cripz and vice versa)

Job Rival Job
Cripz Bloodz
Italian Mafia Russian Mafia
Spider Man Venom
Luke Skywalker Darth Vader
Batman Joker
Chapter 5

Parties

This section covers individual rules about parties

  • If you see someone kill/attack a party member, you are allowed to protect them/get revenge and kill them.
  • Criminals can not party with PD.
Chapter 6

Raiding

This section covers rules about raiding. Raiding may only be performed by criminal classes or PD jobs or other jobs as specified by their job description.

Subsections of Raiding

You may not take over people's bases

Your raid should only take as long as required to access and remove valuables from a base. Once you are done raiding you MUST leave the base.

Examples of violating this rule:

  • “PD Takeovers”
  • “Bank Takeovers”
  • Staying in bases to disrupt a player for the maximum length of time

You may not place or manipulate props during raids

You may not place or manipulate entities while raiding or while being raided.

Chapter 7

Basing

This section covers rules about basing.

Bases may be built in segments of open area or map-provided buildings that you own the doors to.

As a hobo you may base on the sidewalk and street as long as it isn’t prop blocking a walkway, blocking someone’s defense, or asked to be removed by a staff member.

Hobos may not own doors, although the Hobo King may own doors.

Subsections of Basing

Keypads/Buttons

Additional rules covering keypads are:

  • The minimum keypad time is 3 seconds.
  • You may not have a delay on keypads.
  • All fading doors used for raid defense must have a visible keypad/button.
  • You may not have fake keypads.
  • You may not have a keypad/fading door you have to crack multiple times to enter.

These rules does not apply to fading doors and keypads not used for base defense.

KOS Signs

Additional rules that cover KOS signs are:

  • You can not have a KOS line extend into the street.
  • All KOS signs must specify a location or have a line (for example: “KOS past line” or “KOS past this sign”)
  • KOS signs must be easily distinguishable from the area behind it, via color, and size.
  • KOS signs must be right over/next to the entrance of the restricted area.
  • You can’t have a loitering sign. If someone is lurking around your base, warn them to leave.
  • You are allowed to have a “will pursue” sign but you are only allowed to pursue them if they are visible from the entrance of your base.
  • You can not use a KOS sign and a building sign at the same time.
  • KOS signs can be no smaller than 30pt Font Size and must be clearly visible.

Megabasing

A megabase is the owning of multiple properties or a secluded area put all together to make a base.

You must own all the doors in that area you have blocked off and must have a minimum of three people basing there.

Secluded areas can count for things such as, blocking off a whole part of the map and/or taking up an obnoxious amount of “free space” (non-building properties, ocean, multiple tunnels or the skybox)

(If you are confused if your base counts as a megabase, ask a staff member)

An example of how buildings work in relation to the rules: Classification of buildings Classification of buildings

Examples of taking up excessive areas of the map: Examples of taking up excessive areas of the map Examples of taking up excessive areas of the map

Examples of how connected properties work: Examples of how connected properties work Examples of how connected properties work

Subsections of Megabasing

More Examples

You may use only 2 fading doors to protect your base

You may have a maximum of 2 fading doors from your entrance to the interior of your base. You may additionally use fading doors as shooting windows, these do not count towards the two.

You may use additional even more fading doors for other purposes (eg. transferring valuables)

Do not make a maze base

You base may not contain more than one turn diverging from your entrance.

An example of a maze base is: An example image of what is a maze base An example image of what is a maze base

This does not constitute a maze base as it obeys the one turn rule: An example image of what is not a maze base An example image of what is not a maze base

Do not make a zigzag base

You base may not contain more than six strafe props impeding the player from walking in one direction. Your strafe props may also not be pixel perfect.

An example of a maze base is shown here: An example image of what is a zigzag base An example image of what is a zigzag base

This does not constitute a maze base as it obeys the one turn rule: An example image of what is not a zigzag base An example image of what is not a zigzag base

You may not use environmental factors for base defence

You may not use the elements of map beyond normal structures that increase raiding difficulty.

Examples of this include but are not limited to:

  • Fire damage
  • Forcing players to swim while raiding
  • Applying velocity to the player with map elements (eg. water)
  • Dropping players for failing a jump
  • Closing doors though automated/timed means

If someone is past your first fading door without permission, you are allowed to kill them.

You are allowed to kill someone if they get past your first fading door without your permission as this qualifies as raiding, regardless if you have a KOS sign or not.

Extra information

  • Your fading door must be normally closed and visible.
  • This does not exclude if they are trying to keypad crack/lockpick your first door, you can also kill them for that.

Do not use any pixel-perfect gaps as a defense.

While you are allowed to have somewhat tight spaces, they can’t make it impossible for the raider to move only one direction and barely fit into it. You must give them wiggle room.

Examples of this include, but are not limited to:

  • A head hitter base. A raid entrance that does not allow the player to jump at all and the roof is basically right above them.
  • A raid entrance that is barely any wider than the player making it super hard to even fit in the first place.

You may not FDA (Fading Door Abuse).

You are not allowed to activate fading doors in anyway that gives you a advantage over a raider.

Examples of this include, but are not limited to:

  • Using an E2 that automatically opens your fading doors instead of your keypads while a person is raiding
  • Closing your fading door after someone breaks through it
  • Using fading doors that alternates when one is opened in someway

Examples of this do NOT include:

  • Using fading doors that are not used for typical base defense that would otherwise be considered FDA
  • Using fading doors to control the jail in the PD
  • Killing someone who got stuck in a fading door
  • Opening a fading door to shoot someone

You are not allowed to use unfrozen props as a base defense.

You are not allowed to have props that are unfrozen and force the raider to push through or use a gravity gun to get through them.

Examples of this include, but are not limited to:

  • An unfrozen prop that dangles from the roof forcing a raider to swing it.
  • An unfrozen strafe prop that forces the player to push through it.
  • An unfrozen prop on the ground that forces the player to push it down to walk over it.

The person that owns the front doors of a building owns the entire building.

The person that owns the front doors of a building owns the entire building and is therefore entitled to all doors within the building.

If a building has no readily apparent front doors, the owner of any interior doors has the claim to the ownership of the base.

In the event that multiple people own interior doors, the person owning the highest amount of doors that are accessable without opening any further doors owns the base.

You may not build in spawn tunnels.

You can not build in spawn itself or spawn tunnels, including the ends of them. Basing in the spawn buildings is fine.

No crouch bases.

No crouch bases. A crouch base is a base that a player is required to crouch to be able to raid. (This includes crouch jumping)

Examples of this include (but are not limited to):

  • Bases that require you to crouch jump
  • Bases that require you to crouch to enter
  • Bases that require you to crouch to crack keypads

Your shooting windows must be adequately sized and positioned.

All shooting gaps MUST be no smaller than two cubes (models/hunter/blocks/cube025x025x025.mdl) high. Additionally, fading doors may be employed for shooting windows

You may not build a blackout base.

“Blackout” bases are bases designed to impair the depth perception of raiders.

Examples of this include (but are not limited to):

  • Pure white
  • Pure black
  • Any non-shaded props that are of a pure color
  • Any base that is reasonably determined to be designed to impair depth perception

Your base must properly expose defenders.

You must be able to be shot as the defender.

Additionally, the only blockage you may have between you and a raider is your entrance and shooting window.

You may not build a surf base.

You may not build a base that requires the player to “surf” to progress.

You may not use an E2 or other means to provide an unnatural advantage.

You may not use an E2 or other means to provide an advantage.

Examples of this include:

  • Strobe / quickly changing colors to disorient.
  • Excessively disorienting materials
  • Cloak bases
  • Changing entity color/texture
  • Changing player color/texture during raids

This rule does not include alarms

You may not use invisible props for defense.

Invisible props of any kind are not allowed to be used for your base entrance.

Props must be fully visible without having to use any tricks to find them.

You may not build excessively long bases.

Your entrance MUST stay within the boundaries of your property or the general area of it. Your entrance must also be reasonably long.

This is an example of a base that fully breaks the rule. The entrance is outside the property and does not stay in the general area of it: An example image of what violates the rule An example image of what violates the rule

This is an example of an entrance, although inside the property, is still too long of an entrance: Another example image of what violates the rule Another example image of what violates the rule

This is an example of an entrance, which is technically outside the property, but stays in the general area of it while also being short: Another example image of what does not violate the rule Another example image of what does not violate the rule

You may not use no-collided props for the purposes of base defence.

You may not use no-collided props to shield yourself against gunfire from active raids.

You MAY use no-collided props to shield yourself against gunfire that is not a part of entering a base. (Ex. A gun dealer using no-collides to stop gunfire from his clients)

Chapter 8

Mayor Rules

This chapter covers rules governing the Mayor.

It goes over what laws you can make and what you may do.

Subsections of Mayor Rules

You may not make laws to exempt or target people

Your laws must not exempt individuals from laws and must provide specific requirements if a group is exempted. (eg. You need permission from the Mayor to run a gun store)

Your laws must not target specific individuals or non-RP groups.

Examples of this are:

  • All custom classes are AOS
  • Player A is AOS
  • Player B may not own a casino

You may not be in spawn as the mayor

You, as the mayor, must remain outside of spawn.

You may not pass through spawn and must instead take alternative routes.

You may not make any RP action entirely prohibited

You may not entirely prohibit any RP action by law.

Examples of this are:

  • Casinos are illegal
  • Gun stores are illegal
  • Hobos may not build anywhere

You may supplement these laws to make them acceptable, for example:

  • Casinos require a permit to operate
  • Gun stores may not sell heavy weaponry
  • Hobos must build on the beach, away from town

Lockdowns must be for valid reasons

City lockdowns must have a valid reason given with a /broadcast.

Examples of valid reasons are:

  • Terrorist attacks
  • Excessive gunfire
  • Gang violence
  • Officer deaths
  • Other in-RP reasons

Examples of invalid reasons are:

  • PD/Bank raids
  • OOC messages
  • “Too much crime”

Your laws must specify in-RP actions

Your laws may only specify in-RP actions to be punished or encouraged.

Examples of laws violating this rule are:

  • AOS if not crouching
  • AOS if being annoying
  • AOS if not respecting the mayor

You may not make KOS laws

You may not make ANY law involve KOS in any way, all PD KOSes must be through a valid KOS sign or through the rules.

Chapter 9

PD Rules

This chapter covers rules governing PD jobs, some of these jobs include:

  • Mayor
  • SWAT Jobs
  • Batman / Spider Man
  • Civil Protection
  • Bank Security (still govered by PD rules)
  • Terrorist Task Force

Subsections of PD Rules

You must to attempt to arrest those who are wanted or break the law.

If a player is wanted, you MUST make an attempt to arrest them before you just shoot them. If they resist, then you can shoot them.

You may warrant bases if they contain a wanted person.

You may warrant bases if they if they are:

  • Harboring a wanted person (you may additionally arrest the base owner)
  • Are known to contain a wanted person
  • Are a wanted person’s base. (Additional reasoning is NOT required)

You may not own doors outside of the PD/Bank.

You may not own any doors that are outside of the PD or Bank.

You must have proper cause to issue warrants/wanted status.

Examples of proper cause are:

  • Player is wanted
  • You can physically see printers
  • They have adverted that they have printers
  • They have any IN RP indications that they have violated laws
  • Shooting PD members
  • Having solar panels on the exterior (if bitminers are illegal)
